Historical and Spiritual Heritage of Liska

From the 19th century, Liska has served as a focal point of Jewish community and tradition. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. With nearly 3,000 Jewish residents in the late 19th century, Liska was a thriving center of Jewish culture. The influence of Liska’s heritage extends to nearby towns like Kerestir, shaping Jewish life across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.

The preservation of Liska’s heritage relies on both local communities and international organizations.
